Outpatient Imaging Services at Arrow Diagnostic Imaging
Outpatient imaging gives you and your pet access to advanced diagnostics—like CT scans, ultrasounds, and digital X-rays—without the stress or expense of an overnight hospital stay.
While working closely with your family veterinarian, we provide the same high-quality imaging you’d expect at a large corporate hospital, but without the added overhead costs. This means your pet gets the right answers quickly, and you get peace of mind knowing we’re partnering with the doctor who knows your pet best.
Please Note:
Our focus is diagnostics only—your veterinarian will determine the best treatment plan based on our findings. All reports will be sent to your veterinarian, unless you request otherwise.
Frequently Asked Questions
What To Expect Before/After Your Appointment
Records & Labwork
- Before your appointment, we’ll ask your family vet to send us your pet’s recent records and lab results.
- If your pet hasn’t had bloodwork performed in the last 30 days, we will discuss the recommended steps before proceeding with scheduling.
How Do I Schedule an Appointment for my Pet?
- Pet owners may submit a consultation request online, call, or email us.
- Your family veterinarian must submit a referral form online.
- Once we receive a referral from your vet, our team will review the information provided, and contact you to schedule an appointment.
Preparing for your Visit:
- Please drop off your pet at the specified appointment time.
- Withold food from your pet after 8pm the evening before your appointment (unless otherwise instructed by your veterinarian). No food should be given the morning of your appointment, or we may need to reschedule.
- Your pet may have free access to water.
- To reduce stress on your pet during their appointment, we recommend administering anti-anxiety medications the night before and 2 hours prior to arrival. This keeps your pet calm and often reduces the amount of procedural sedatives needed during your pet’s visit. If your pet does not have a prescription for one of these medications, we kindly request that you consult with your veterinarian to acquire these medications in advance.
- Please be prepared to advise our staff on the last time your pet ate food and received medications.
- Your pet’s discharge time will be discussed at drop off.
Patients Coming for CT:
- Sedation or Anesthesia: Since pets need to remain completely still during a CT scan, we often use sedation or general anesthesia to help them relax and stay comfortable.
- IV Catheter Placement: A small IV catheter will be placed to administer medications needed for sedation, anesthesia, and recovery.
- Contrast Material: In some cases, we may use a contrast agent to highlight specific areas inside the body—such as organs, blood vessels, or tissues—making it easier for our radiologist to detect any abnormalities. Our staff will go over any potential contrast-associated risks with you at the time of drop off.
Patients Coming for Ultrasound:
- Light Sedation: In some cases, mild sedation may be used to help your pet stay relaxed and still during the procedure or when collecting diagnostic samples.
- Shaving the Exam Area: The fur over the area being scanned will need to be shaved—typically the abdomen or chest—to ensure optimal contact with the ultrasound probe.
Follow Up:
- If your pet’s case is urgent, your veterinarian will be contacted as soon as possible after imaging is completed.
- Reports are typically sent to your veterinarian within 24-36 hours.
- Your veterinarian will discuss the findings with you and determine the next steps for your pet’s care.
